Gaza conflict: Israel and Hamas agree 12-hour window

srael and Hamas have said they have accepted a 12-hour humanitarian window in Gaza.

The truce is due to begin at 0800 local time (0500 GMT). Efforts to negotiate a seven-day ceasefire are still ongoing.

Earlier US Secretary of State John Kerry said he was still confident of a longer ceasefire, despite media reports that Israel had rejected one proposal.

More than 800 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and 36 Israelis have died since the conflict started on 8 July.

A spokesman for Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza, Sami Abu Zuhri said there was "national consensus on a humanitarian truce... for 12 hours on Saturday".

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) later confirmed the truce on Twitter, but said it would "continue to locate and neutralise terror tunnels".

"We will respond if terrorists choose to exploit this time to attack IDF personnel or fire at Israeli civilians," it said in a statement.

The news came shortly after Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon warned that ground operations in Gaza could soon be broadened "significantly".

Mr Yaalon told soldiers: "You need to be ready for the possibility that very soon we will instruct the military to significantly broaden the ground operation in Gaza".

Hamas has previously said it would not agree to any long-term truce that did not lead to an end to Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The British ambassador to the UN, Mark Lyall Grant, said he was disappointed at the failure to reach a longer-term truce.

But he welcomed Saturday's 12-hour truce, saying it could "open up a little bit of space to work on a more sustainable ceasefire."

West Bank clashes
According to the UN, Israeli air strikes killed a further 68 people in Gaza on Friday, bringing the total number of Palestinian dead to about 870.

There were also clashes during protests in the West Bank which left at least five Palestinians dead.

Palestinians in the West Bank had been taking part in a "Day of Rage" against Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Air strikes continued against targets in Gaza on Friday

Meanwhile Israel's military said its Iron Dome defence system had intercepted several rockets fired across the border by Hamas.

Israel launched its military offensive on 8 July with the declared objective of stopping Hamas firing rockets into Israel.

It has since extended its operation to destroy tunnels dug by militants to infiltrate Israel.

Several foreign ministers, including Mr Kerry, are due to hold a meeting in France on Saturday to seek a diplomatic solution.

"The goal is to bring together international efforts so that as quickly as possible conditions for a cease-fire in Gaza emerge," said a French foreign ministry spokesman.

The foreign ministers of the EU, UK, Germany, Turkey and Qatar will also take part.

Air Algerie AH5017: 'No survivors' from crash in Mali

There are no survivors from the Air Algerie AH5017 passenger jet that crashed in Mali, says the French President, Francois Hollande.

Mr Hollande said one flight data recorder had been recovered, after French troops reached the crash site near Mali's border with Burkina Faso.

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane early on Thursday after pilots reported severe storms.

The 116 passengers on the Air Algerie flight included 51 French citizens.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-83 had been chartered from Spanish airline, Swiftair. It was flying from Burkina Faso's capital, Ougadougou, to Algiers.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told French radio network RTL that "the aircraft was destroyed at the moment it crashed".

"We think the aircraft crashed for reasons linked to the weather conditions, although no theory can be excluded at this point," he said.

A team of 100 French soldiers, with 30 vehicles, had travelled to the crash site on Friday, a French defence ministry official said.

The team was part of a force that was deployed to Mali last year to combat an insurgency backed by al-Qaeda.

"French soldiers who are on the ground have started the first investigations," French President Francois Hollande said on Friday. "Sadly there are no survivors."

Sandstorm alert
Contact with Flight AH 5017 was lost about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou early on Thursday morning, Air Algerie said.

The pilot had contacted Niger's control tower in Niamey at around 01:30 GMT to change course because of a sandstorm, officials say.

Burkina Faso authorities said the passenger list comprised 27 people from Burkina Faso, 51 French, eight Lebanese, six Algerians, two from Luxembourg, five Canadians, four Germans, one Cameroonian, one Belgian, one Egyptian, one Ukrainian, one Swiss, one Nigerian and one Malian.

The six crew members are Spanish, according to the Spanish pilots' union.

Visit a Physician Regularly
During pregnancy, mothers can visit a physician/doctor regularly. Regularly check the baby in the womb is useful to know the condition and growth of the fetus. Likewise, if there is anything wrong in pregnancy should be immediately checked by a physician. Do this until the last month of pregnancy.

Important Eat Nutritious Foods
Begin to eat nutritious foods; it is important for pregnant women and fetal growth. Maternal diet usually eats small meals but often, about 5-6 times per day. It's better than eating large servings in 3 per day, a diet with smaller portions and more often to reduce nausea and vomiting in the morning, and stomach pain.

Folic Acid and Zinc
Healthy foods for pregnant mothers are foods that contain folic acid and zinc. Folic acid is useful for preventing neural tube defects in infants and spine. Foods that contain folic acid present in cereals, brown rice, oranges, green vegetables, beans, broccoli, and more. Zinc is useful to prevent anemia during pregnancy. Anemia is very dangerous for pregnant women, can cause bleeding during childbirth.

How to Teach 1st Grade

Teaching 1st grade will be different by teaching high school students. Required certain techniques so that the child can absorb lessons more fun considering the psychological child is still in the early learning stages.

The voice sounded clear enough by children, intonation, etc. are things that are very important to be possessed by the teacher. For early elementary grades, they are still considered early childhood, before providing early childhood learning, as teachers need to recognize the characteristics of elementary school age children first. Do not forget to always give something new and varied for them. No need expensive, objects in the environment can be the object of exploration for children.

The period is also very short of their concentration. Thus, teachers must have a second plan, and even third, fourth plan needs to be prepared for them so they do not saturate. Keep in mind that early childhood is a period play. Thus, the instruction given to them should be based on the principles of play (fun, children can explore, gain a lot of experience).

Children are not miniature adults but they have the characteristics and uniqueness of each. So, do not equate them with the high school kids that are easier on the set and was able to concentrate for a long time.

new game The Crew preview

Ubisoft's cross-USA driving RPG is an ambitious use of modern gaming's connectivity, John Robertson talks to The Crew's crew about their plans.

Formats PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360
Developer Ivory Tower/Ubisoft Reflections
Publisher Ubisoft
Released 14 November 2014

The video game landscape is changing. Largely gone are the days when wholly completed projects would be printed on discs and inserted in our consoles, played until completion and then stored away likely never to be seen again. We live in an age of downloadable content additions, "shared-world experiences" and expansion packs that tread a the line between commercial cynicism and cultural value.
It is into this environment that new games must venture in order to justify the kinds of nine figure budgets that are increasingly being reported on. Indeed, without such an approach a game is unlikely to generate the kind of investment that would classify it as a member of the nebulously-titled 'triple-A' crowd.

Into this space enters The Crew, a massively multiplayer online driving game set across the entirety of the United States. That's 'entirety' in the pragmatic, rather than the idealist, sense. The map is not to scale, rather landmarks and cities are correctly positioned in relation to one another and driving between them means racing across routes lined with roughly the right kind of scenery. It's a shared experience, with other players occupying the world with you, and what's on the disc is far from what's eventually going to be available.
"Two years ago I would have said that on day launch day the content that's on the disc would be everything," explains The Crew's creative director Julian Gerighty. "Today, though, and this is both a blessing and curse, we can continue working on the game and adding things to it after it has been released and submitted.

"Yes, you could do that two years ago, but what I'm finding with this console generation is that there's a much bigger opportunity to continue building content far beyond launch day. That's my vision for The Crew, to continue supporting it way down the line. We've negotiated with Ubisoft to keep the team working on the game for a year after release to deliver content packs, new missions and skills and even major features."
Gerighty's desire is to provide this kind of post-launch support without charging players extra to engage with it. The plan is to instead underpin the business model with a micro-transaction system that sees players part with cash to add extra cars to the game, presumably in a way similar to that seen in Forza Motorsport.

The grand scheme is to give players what Gerighty describes as a "platform for driving games", in which multiple styles, tastes and disciplines are covered. It's here that the open-world comes into play, the broad range of environments giving you the option of street racing, off-road hill climbs and takedown challenges in which you must destroy another car within a set time limit. There's even a full recreation of California's Laguna Seca racetrack for you to drive to and compete on.
It's undoubtedly an idea of significant scope, one that will likely require many hours of investment to appreciate it in the way intended. What it's not, however, is an idea that has come about without existing foundations.

"Our core team has been working together for about 15 years," Gerighty tells me, "I joined the team about three years ago as creative director. Our studio director has always had the vision of creating large, shared-world driving games - that goes back to Test Drive Unlimited on Xbox 360, the idea of which is essentially Destiny with cars. That game was the precursor to The Crew, really, although it's very bare bones by comparison.

"I'm seeing a lot of games launching with this similar concept, but without the social layer at the base in the way that we've got it. For me, this generation is all about creating connected experiences. The reason for that is that playing in a world populated by other real people is going to be more surprising and engaging than an AI world. No matter how good the AI is, having other people in the world is going to create a more powerful experience."

A consistent theme comes to the fore when you begin to reel off console games attempting to provide 'connected experiences'. Destiny, Grand Theft Auto Online, War Thunder et al revolve around conflict, either by design or player persuasion. Gerighty is intent on making sure The Crew's communal elements don't exclusively revolve around competition in this way by not encouraging players towards specific routines of play that define a universal base of interaction.

You can decide to concentrate solely on racing your peers, but equally you can ignore that side altogether and instead embark on road trips across the country or work together as a team against an AI entity. The idea goes back to the initial concept of creating a driving game platform, in which 'driving' is the key word... a 'racing game platform' would be a different proposition.
Creating this kind of pick-n-choose environment is a far cry from how games used to be made, requiring a completely different skill set based around facilitating player actions rather than guiding them at every opportunity. It's something Gerighty seems to savour.
"Fundamentally our jobs have changed because of the move towards designing logic and systems over very defined paths for players to follow," discusses Gerighty. "Going back to something very linear and something that's very 'level designed' kind of feels like a chore for me now, I don't enjoy those kinds of experiences very much at all anymore.

"Some people do that kind of thing very well. Naughty Dog still creates some fantastic linear experiences, but in general I'm not so interested in them. I think that's been a huge change in this industry and a change in what our jobs mean. It's been a pleasurable change, though, because designing something that's going to be the same every time you play takes the magic out of video games. It does for me, at least."
And that's where The Crew is either going to succeed or fail, in its provision of allowing us to do something different every time we play. It's no easy task, not least given that driving games must adhere to the rigid fundamentals of vehicular interaction: accelerate, brake, reverse and turn.
Reimagining the framework within which those commands operate, to the extent that The Crew feels like a wide open platform for you to experience 'driving', is where Gerighty and his team will be judged

Sepang MotoGP: Marc Marquez takes record-equalling 12th win of 2014

Marc Marquez took his first MotoGP victory since August as he defeated Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.

After his astounding streak of 10 wins in the first 10 grands prix of 2014, Marquez had only won once in the following six races, and crashed in three of them.

He finally put that right in Malaysia, though only after a first-corner brush with Lorenzo that dropped him to eighth.

Lorenzo had made a good start to put his Yamaha between Honda duo Dani Pedrosa and Marquez as they approached Turn 1, where contact between the two champions sent both wide.

While Marquez dropped all the way to eighth, Lorenzo pulled back onto the line in third place, and then swiftly overtook both fast-starter Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati and Pedrosa to lead at the end of the opening lap.

Pedrosa then fell from second place at the final corner on lap two, but there was little respite for Lorenzo as Valentino Rossi and the recovering Marquez were soon on his tail.

The lead trio spent the first half of the race covered by just a few tenths as they ran in a very tense three-bike train.

After many, many attempts under braking, Rossi finally got ahead of Lorenzo at half-distance.

Marquez followed the Italian soon afterwards, with Lorenzo - who was running a harder front tyre than his rivals - then falling away in third place.

Rossi held on a little longer before Marquez made it past, although it took the final two laps of the race for the Honda to shake the Yamaha off completely.

Marquez's win draws him level with Mick Doohan for the record of 12 premier class victories in a single season, and he can now break that mark in the season finale at Valencia in a fortnight.

Rossi's second place increases his advantage over Lorenzo in the battle for the championship runner-up spot. This is now an all-Yamaha affair with Pedrosa out of contention after crashing for good when back up to 13th place.

Dovizioso developed a problem in the closing laps and tumbled right back to eighth place, which meant Stefan Bradl and Bradley Smith ended up battling for fourth, with the German coming out on top.

Pol Espargaro bravely rode to sixth despite breaking a bone in his foot in a Saturday practice crash and having some very close calls with Yonny Hernandez, who finished seventh.

Attrition levels were high again: in addition to Andrea Iannone non-starting due to arm injuries from a Friday clash with Marquez, Aleix Espargaro and Alvaro Bautista collided early on, and Cal Crutchlow parked his Ducati from sixth with a mechanical problem.

Israel plans to build their angry Palestinians Yarusalem

pledged Monday to build more than 1,000 new settler homes in Arab east Jerusalem, in a move the Palestinians warned was likely to trigger an "explosion" of violence.
The announcement by the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu angered the Palestinians who said it would inflame tensions in the eastern sector of the city which has been plagued by almost daily clashes for the past four months.

"The government has decided to advance the planning of more than 1,000 units in Jerusalem -- roughly 400 in Har Homa and about 600 in Ramat Shlomo," a source in Netanyahu's office told AFP.
The source also confirmed Israel was to advance plans "for infrastructure projects in the West Bank," without giving further details.
The news emerged just weeks after hardline settlers took over 35 homes in Silwan, a densely populated Palestinian neighbourhood on the southern edge of the Old City, sparking fury in the West Bank city of Ramallah and condemnation from Washington.

Nabil Abu Rudeina, a spokesman for Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, said the move was a "dangerous escalation" that could create an "earthquake" in the region.
And Jibril Rajoub, a senior member of Abbas's Fatah faction, warned it would likely fuel further violence.
"Such unilateral acts will lead to an explosion," he said just days after a 21-year-old Palestinian from Silwan rammed his car into a crowd of Israelis, killing an infant and a young woman.
"The Israelification of east Jerusalem is the most provocative act for us as Palestinians, as Muslims, as Christians, as Arabs," he said.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Washington was "deeply concerned" by Israeli settlement plans.
"Israel's leaders have said they would support a pathway to a two-state solution, but moving forward with this type of action would be incompatible with the pursuit of peace," she said.
Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Abbas had called for an emergency UN Security Council session over the east Jerusalem violence, as well as what he termed Israeli "aggression" at the nearby Al-Aqsa compound.

- The root cause -
"The root cause (of the ongoing unrest) is the Israeli occupation -- the frustration, the disappointment, losing hope in the future are all symptoms of what is going on on the ground," Rajoub said.
"Even the Americans have started to understand that Mr Netanyahu is responsible for what's going on."
Netanyahu denied Israel's actions in east Jerusalem had fuelled anger on the Palestinian street.
"The violence against us is not the result of construction in Jerusalem... it is because of our enemies' desire that we not be here at all," he said, pledging to crack down on the unrest until calm was restored to the city.
"You cannot build peace on a foundation of lies and illusions. And the root of this conflict always has been and always will be the refusal to recognise the Jewish state in any borders at all."
Over the weekend, police fired tear gas at hundreds of Palestinians at a "symbolic funeral" for the perpetrator of Wednesday's car attack, Abdelrahman Shaludi, who was shot by police as he fled and later died of his wounds.
The car attack sparked clashes between stone-throwers and police in Palestinian neighbourhoods which continued until Shaludi was buried late Sunday night under tight security restrictions, with the number of mourners restricted to 50.

- 'Jerusalem is burning' -
Lior Amichai of Israeli settlement watchdog Peace Now also said the announcement on construction in Har Homa and Ramat Shlomo was likely to stir tensions.
"There is never a good time to do such things, now more than ever as Jerusalem is burning," he told AFP.
Israel seized east Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it in a move never recognised by the international community. It views the city as its undivided capital and does not consider construction in the east as settlement building.
But for the Palestinians, who want east Jerusalem as capital of their future state, Israel's ongoing construction there is a major issue.
Israel's settlement policy was one of the main reasons for the collapse of the latest US-led round of peace talks in April, prompting the Palestinians to push ahead with diplomatic plans to seek international recognition.
